A closer look at 14K gold

14K gold melt value today.

Current market reference: $131.01 per gram of pure gold, checked Nov 8, 2026, 7:57 AM. At that reference, solid 14K gold contains about $76.42 of gold per gram before subtracting stones or other non-gold parts.

Fourteen-karat gold is 14 parts gold out of 24. To estimate its metal value, start with the weight of the 14K parts—not the whole piece if it includes stones, a steel spring, or other materials. Multiply that weight by 14/24, then by a gold price per gram.

A 585 mark describes a closely related fineness: 585 parts gold per thousand. A mark is useful evidence, but it cannot prove the piece is genuine. The FTC's jewelry guide explains the difference between karat gold and plated or gold-filled pieces.

Use the table for quick answers from one gram through 100 grams. Every figure uses the same current pure-gold reference and assumes the stated weight is solid 14K metal. Subtract stones and other non-14K parts first.

How much is 4 grams of 14K gold worth?

At this reference, 4 grams of solid 14K gold contain about 2.33 grams of pure gold and have an estimated melt value of $305.69. If the four grams include stones, a watch movement, or other materials, subtract that weight first.

How much is 26 grams of 14K gold worth?

At this reference, 26 grams of solid 14K gold contain about 15.17 grams of pure gold and have an estimated melt value of $1,987.00. If the 26 grams include stones, a watch movement, steel springs, or other materials, subtract that weight first.

What are 25 or 27 grams of 14K gold worth?

At this reference, 25 grams of solid 14K gold contain about 14.58 grams of pure gold and have an estimated melt value of $1,910.58. Twenty-seven grams contain about 15.75 grams of pure gold and have an estimated melt value of $2,063.42. Subtract stones and every other part that is not 14K gold before using either figure.

If you are comparing a piece for sale, the calculator below can include its asking price and buying costs. A SpotMelts membership lets you search the full catalog and bring supported listings closest to melt to the top.

These figures estimate contained gold, not what a refiner, pawn shop, jeweler, or private buyer will pay. Payouts can be lower, and testing, refining, shipping, tax, and selling costs can change the result.

What might a pawn shop or gold buyer pay for 14K gold?

There is no single pawn-shop price per gram. Start with the contained-gold estimate above, then ask what percentage of that estimate the buyer is offering after testing, refining, and other deductions. Compare the final dollar offer—not a quoted percentage alone—and get more than one offer when the amount matters.

Does 14K gold-plated jewelry have melt value?

A 14K gold-plated piece is not 58.3% gold. Only its thin outer layer is 14K gold, so the full weight of the item cannot be used in this calculator. Without a measured plating thickness and surface area—or a verified recovered-gold weight—there is no responsible way to calculate its gold melt value from the item's total weight.

Marks such as 14K GP, GEP, HGE, or RGP describe plated or layered products rather than solid 14K gold. Their value may come from the base metal, maker, design, condition, or resale appeal. If a listing only says “14K gold plated,” do not enter the item's full weight as 14K gold.

Check a 14K listing with its actual weight.

Enter the piece's weight and subtract any parts that are not 14K gold. Enter zero only if you know the whole weight is 14K metal. A current market reference appears when available; you can change it. Add the asking price and buying costs to see how the full purchase price compares.

This is a metal estimate, not a resale offer. A refiner or dealer may pay less, and testing or selling can cost more. See how price to melt works before using a low ratio to make a buying decision.

Why the non-gold weight matters.

Suppose a ring weighs six grams, but one gram is a stone or another material. At a hypothetical $100 per gram of pure gold, the five grams of 14K metal contain about 2.92 grams of gold. Estimated melt value is $291.67. A $300 asking price plus $20 in shipping and tax brings the purchase to $320, or about 1.10 times that estimate.

The $100 reference price is only a round number for this example, not a current quote. If the seller has not disclosed a reliable metal weight, leave it unknown rather than treating the whole piece as gold. Gold-plated and gold-filled pieces need a different assessment; this calculator is for metal that is actually 14K throughout.
