Understanding metal value
Platinum price per gram by purity
The table below converts the current pure-platinum reference into a price per gram for 999, 950, 900, and 850 platinum. To estimate a piece's metal value, match its verified purity and use only the weight of its platinum-bearing parts.
A fineness mark states the precious-metal content in parts per thousand: 999 platinum is 99.9%, Pt950 is 95%, Pt900 is 90%, and Pt850 is 85%. UK hallmarking guidance recognizes all four standards. Multiply the verified platinum-bearing weight by the matching price per gram. A mark is useful evidence, but a valuable purchase may still warrant independent testing. Use the Pt950 calculator for a fixed 95% estimate.
Platinum is dense, but density alone cannot establish what a finished ring weighs or whether every part is platinum. Gemstones, settings, and repairs can make the total item weight misleading for a metal-only comparison.

| platinum | Purity | Common mark | 1 gram | 5 grams | 10 grams | 20 grams |
| Pt999 platinum |
99.9% |
Pt999 or 999 Plat |
$49.36 | $246.82 | $493.63 | $987.26 |
| Pt950 platinum |
95.0% |
Pt950 or 950 Plat |
$46.94 | $234.71 | $469.42 | $938.84 |
| Pt900 platinum |
90.0% |
Pt900 or 900 Plat |
$44.47 | $222.36 | $444.71 | $889.42 |
| Pt850 platinum |

Pt850 or 850 Plat |
$42.00 | $210.00 | $420.01 | $840.01 |
Use only the weight of the platinum-bearing parts. Stones, springs, clasps, fillings, and mixed-metal components can make the finished item heavier than the metal being valued.

Calculate platinum melt value.
Use the weight of the platinum-bearing parts, choose the purity, and subtract stones or other materials. Add the asking price and buying costs if you want to compare the full purchase with the metal estimate.
This is a metal-content estimate, not an appraisal or a promise of what a dealer or refiner will pay. Verify the metal, purity, and usable weight before relying on the result.

Before you compare prices
Do not use gold or palladium quotes for a platinum piece. Check the exact mark, the weight excluding non-platinum parts, and any fees or restrictions on the buying path. Melt value is not the amount a buyer is obliged to pay you.
The calculator on this page starts with this metal and lets you use a current reference price or enter your own. The price-to-melt guide shows how extra costs and non-metal weight change a buying comparison. At auction, the maximum-bid calculator works backward from your melt-value limit after premiums, tax, shipping, and fixed fees. You can also browse the public feed to see recently checked listings.
