A closer look at sterling silver
Sterling silver melt value calculator and price per gram.
Sterling silver is 92.5% silver. A 925 mark means the piece is claimed to contain 925 parts silver per thousand. The mark is worth checking, but it cannot prove the piece is genuine. The FTC explains silver marks and plated jewelry.
To estimate the metal value, multiply the weight of the sterling parts in grams by 0.925, then by a current silver price per gram. Leave out stones, beads, steel fittings, and other parts that are not sterling. A silver-plated piece cannot be valued as solid sterling by its full weight.

A 30-gram necklace with five grams of beads has 25 grams of sterling-bearing weight. That contains about 23.13 grams of pure silver before any testing, refining, or selling loss.
Open the silver calculator with sterling selected to subtract non-silver weight and compare the full asking price, shipping, tax, and other buying costs. If the seller gives only total weight and the non-silver parts cannot be separated, the metal value is still uncertain.

Common questions
Questions about sterling silver value.
How much is sterling silver worth per gram?
At the reference shown, one gram of solid sterling silver contains about $1.54 in silver before testing, refining, or selling costs.
How do you calculate sterling silver melt value?
Subtract stones, fillings, blades, fittings, and every other non-sterling part from the total weight. Multiply the remaining sterling weight by 0.925, then by the current pure-silver price per gram.
Is weighted sterling solid silver?
No. Weighted sterling objects can contain cement, plaster, resin, steel, or another heavy core. Only the sterling shell belongs in a melt-value estimate.
Check the item, not just the stamp.
Confirm whether the item is solid sterling rather than silverplate or a weighted object. A heavy base or filling is not silver you can count toward melt value.
Open the exact seller page before buying. Price and availability can change; a search result is not proof that the item is still for sale.
